Really easy to follow pattern. The YouTube is incredibly helpful. I bought the pattern, fabric and notions pack. The fabric is beautiful and sews really nicely. The finished dress is fabulous and I will definitely be making another soon.

Thanks for such a lovely review, I’m so pleased you enjoyed making it. It’s one of my favourites too xx

  2. Emily Rought-Brooks

I really love this dress. I’ve made one and have another piece of fabric earmarked for the next. Instructions are excellent and I really felt I learned some new skills in making it. I also felt it was really well designed for a more middle aged body that has been through the rigours of life, with sleeves of a nice length and a shape that is neither sack like nor skin tight, but flattering.

    • admin (store manager)

I’m so pleased you like the shape! There’s so many tent dresses out there but they don’t suit everyone (or anyone!!) so I thought absit what I liked to wear. Looks like to worked 🙂 Dxx

  3. Emily Rought-Brooks

Really love this dress – the details of a longer sleeve, the elastic to draw the waist in – all make this a thoughtful sew. I learned a lot from this.

    • admin (store manager)

Love that you learned some techniques whilst making this Emily..It’s just what I hoped. Thanks for the lovely review Dx

  4. Susan Woodhead

I bought the pdf version of this pattern and got an A0 print version. I found the combination of video and printed instructions were really useful and even though I’ve been sewing for many years, there were some fantastic tips which I’ll use in my future sewing
I’ve used a quilt cover to create my dress and I love the comfortable style of the Vienne dress. Although it looks a complicated design, the way you can play and rewind the video helps you build up the confidence to make this dress. It has pockets which all dresses should. I’m planning to create another version as well with different fabric

    • admin (store manager)

Absolutely a dress NEEDS pockets 🙂 I’m really glad you founds some tips with this dress and that you enjoyed the video tutorial.
I can’t wait to see the next one Susan.
      Dxx

Love this dress. It’s a lovely sew and I learned a couple of new techniques. Donna’s sew along video is fabulous and you can dip in and out for help where you need it. The gently elasticated waist is very flattering as are the elbow length sleeves. I’m looking forward to making more Vienne dresses. Must be a good pattern if you want to make more as soon as you finish the last one

    • admin (store manager)

If you could see my smile!!! I’m so happy you love it as much as I do…I have 4 and counting LOL Thank you for the review xx

  6. Kayleigh Ewing

Such a great sew! The dress looks great and is super flattering, the pockets are a fab addition too. The instructions along with the tutorial video really made sewing the dress a breeze even on the tricky parts. I will definitely be using the hemming method on future projects – what a game changer! Donna offered great customer service too when I was unable to download my pattern. Great company all round and I would highly recommend!

    • admin (store manager)

Thank you so much for a great review. I’m really happy that you like the dress and have learned a few techniques on the way. I’llalways be around to help if can be. Donna xx

  7. Laura

After seeing the ‘buffet’ dresses on the GBSB and seeing an amazing couple of versions of the Vienne dress on Instagram, I knew I wanted to try this pattern. The pattern itself is simple but so effective and its the first time that I’ve actually done pockets (I’ve always left them out as they seemed far too complicated!). I loved using the sew along on YouTube and didn’t actually look at my instructions (I did have them with me as instructed by Donna!) With restrictions still in place it was so lovely to ‘sew with someone’ and it felt like a friend chatting with you and helping you to sew, rather than an instructional video. I also liked that the sizing wasn’t numbers but symbols, its such a small thing but actually made a difference not seeing a size number. I cant wait to make another few of these dresses as they are so comfortable. I learned a number of new things such as a new way to add elastic and the bias bound neckline (Game changer for a neat finish!)
Thanks Donna for a fabulous pattern and sew along!

Thank you so much for this lovely review Laura.
I’m so happy that you enjoyed the making process as much as the end the result (which is fabulous BTW!) Cant wait to see more
      Donna xx

  8. Colette Bland

It’s a lovely dress to wear , really comfortable and although the pockets nearly defeated me they are a great addition to the dress . The tutorial was a godsend , Donna must have been dizzy as I rewound and forwarded a few times. I found if you actually follow what Donna’s said in both the tutorial and the written instructions, the pockets are actually a straightforward concept lol. I will be making another one as a good staple to have in your wardrobe, sandals for summer and tights and ankle boots for autumn/winter. Thanks Donna another great design.

What kind words ♥️♥️ thank you. I did feel a little off last week maybe it was you 😂😂 x

I love my new Vienne dress. It’s a lovely pattern to sew and the final garment is excellent, I know it’s going to be worn a lot! The instructions are very clear and the YouTube video tutorial is really handy if you’re a visual learner. All my thoughts and plenty of pics are on my blog: https://sewminigems.wordpress.com/2021/07/23/vienne-dress/

  10. Andrea Miller

Lovely pattern, easy to follow instructions, as ever with Donna’s patterns.

I did an adjustment to the sleeve pattern to make them flutter sleeves at my daughters request.

I will be making one for myself in the gorgeous navy floral fabric when I get time 🙂

  11. Han

This is such a fabulous dress pattern. I’ve made two already and will definitely be making more. I find the elasticated waist seam sits in the perfect place for me and I love that it has pockets too!!! The YouTube sew-along videos are invaluable, helping at every step of the way while also being enjoyable to watch. I highly recommend this pattern. I can’t wait to try the others in the collection!!

  12. Steph Hart

I absolutely loved making this dress and am thrilled with the result. For a beginner like me, Donna’s You Tube tutorial was so helpful and encouraging. I’ve already started my second version to consolidate (I hope!) my new skills! Looking forward to trying out some of the other patterns next 🙂

    • admin (store manager)

Oh Steph that’s great to hear I’m so pleased you found the Youtube helpful AND that you have more planned! Enjoy.

Lovely dress, really easy to follow instructions. I raised the waistline a couple of cm because I have a short body, but otherwise a great fit and a beautiful pattern

    • admin (store manager)

Aww thank you. I’m short in the body too so do exactly that! D 😊

  14. Elena G. (verified owner)

The dress is cute, with lots of hacking possibilities, and I would definitely make this pattern again! Not sure I am a fan of the pocket construction – in a shifty fabric the way they are drafted and sewn feels unnecessarily fiddly and, for me didn’t result in the cleanest finish. When I make the dress again I will also add strips of lightweight interfacing at the pocket openings.

    • admin (store manager)

Thanks Elena. Regards. The pockets the reason they are drafted that way it to hold them in place as lightweight fabric can bunch up and really spoil the lines of the dress but hey the beauty of making our own means we can change things. Enjoy the next one. D 😊

  15. Sharon (verified owner)

Not made this dress yet but I’m excited to see it made up and to wear it

  20. Sue Elliot1 (verified owner)

I have not sewn it up yet, but I like the photos I’ve seen.

Really pleased with the finish – great for the predicted hot summer in Australia. Video useful. Pattern was a download from a magazine. Like the pocket construction – very smooth finish. Used a light weight linen and high density elastic. My elastic choice was not so good on the sleeves, so I would swap that element out next time.

Thank you for a lovely review xx
