This is the first skirt I’ve made and truth be told I’m not much of a skirt wearer. But I wanted to try something with a bit of swish to see if I liked the style. And I like it a lot. The paper pattern and instructions came in a practical wallet for storage and it even had a cute label to sew into the skirt! The instructions were very clear and there is a helpful video to go with the instructions so it’s great if, like me, you are learning how to sew. In fact with the video it’s like being in a virtual sewing class. If you want to grow your sewing confidence then I can recommend this pattern.

Ahhh Helen, I’m so happy that it helped you grow in confidence. That was exactly what I was trying to do! I’ve seen your skirt on instagram and it looks fabulous..you definitely suit a bit of swish. Dxx

This is a lovely, well-drafted pattern, with some great anticipation built into it. Size Me Sewing has clearly imagined a beginner maker standing next to their machine saying “oh, no! I’ve never inserted an invisible zip!” and the instructions have been written with reassurance in mind. I added one or two tweaks just in terms of finishing the seams, but otherwise this was a straightforward project, made as directed. The Florence skirt is a lovely, flexible garment which lends itself to being worn with tights and boots or flip-flops! A bonus would be that you can have this pattern drafted to your specific size – I didn’t use this service but what a great, inclusive idea. More power to Size Me Sewing!

Ahh Yes!! I always have a beginner in mind when I’m writing the instructions…I also think a nice gentle reminder to the experienced sewist is a good thing too!

I’m so happy you enjoyed it and I loved seeing it on Instagram, thanks Donna xx

This is a great little skirt. I wanted a billowing tiered skirt but can’t take all that extra volume. This has a flattering fit around the waist and hips with a nice swoosh and billow at mid thigh. It fits true to size and the YouTube instructions are reallly helpful. I’d consider myself quite an experienced sewist but this is the best invisible zip insertion I’ve achieved. I wouldn’t hesitate to make more of these. I’m not a massive skirt wearer as they tend to twizzle around on me and drive me crackers. However I gave the Florence skirt a go as I thought if it was made for my measurements then the twizzle may not happen. I can confirm no twizzle occurs!
A lovely pattern to put together. Instructions are clear and well written. It’s the perfect skirt to dress up or down and is ideal for many occasions. Excellent work Size Me!

I am in love with this skirt! I love how it fits lovely around the waist and hips and then flares out so nicely with the gathers. The instructions are really clear so it’s a great pattern for all levels (I’m a beginner) and it’s a make that will not take much of your time so even better! I can’t wait to make another one

I’ve had so much fun making this. A really great pattern that is a lovely fit. I’ve done some sewing before but have never made clothes. I really loved the video tutorial. It was so clear and reassuring. I’m so chuffed with my skirt, feel very proud I made it, and am now browsing the other patterns on this site for my next project!

Ohh Carol you’ve just made my week! I’m so pleased you enjoyed the whole process ♥️♥️ can’t wait to see what you choose xx

  8. Paige

I loved making this skirt! It’s very beginner friendly as it comes with an easy-to-follow video tutorial.
I ended up going with a heavier weight linen and it worked out perfectly. I made a few adjustments to the darts and sides as I found the waist to be a bit too large (nothing out of the ordinary for my proportions) so if I was to make again, I’d definitely size down.
Thank you for the lovely pattern!

I made 2 versions of this Fabulous Swishy skirt to take on holiday. I used viscose fabric from Morocco, bought on a previous holiday. It’s a well designed pattern that makes up well. It comes with very clear step by step instructions and brilliant video tutorial by Donna to guide you through all the sewing processes neede to give you a lovely finished garment. These are especially useful if you have little or no seeing experience. I’ve seen for many many years but like to use them and often pick up new tips or get reminded of processes I may nor have used for a long time.I’m looking forward to making more skirts with this pattern.
